The Township of Weehawken offers a variety of senior citizen activities, programs, and services for the seniors in our community. These include the following
 
 Senior Activity Locations:

  • Senior Nutrition Center is located at 201 Highwood Ave.  
  • Senior Housing Gregory Ave Community Room located at 525 Gregory Ave.  
  • Senior Housing Potter Place Community Room located at 2-4 Potter Place. 
  • Senior Housing Park Ave Community Room located at 4800 Park Ave. 

 

  • Free Food Shopping Trips: We provide door to door transportation to Shop Rite in North Bergen on Tuesday’s,  Trader Joe’s in Edgewater on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, Walmart in Secaucus on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month, and Lidl in Weehawken on Friday’s. 

  • Free Medical Transportation: We offer free daily medical transportation Monday through Friday between the hours of 9am and 3pm. We service all hospitals, medical facilities, and private doctors within Hudson County.  We do also provide trips to Hackensack Hospital and Holy Name Hospital. We recommend making reservations as soon as you get the appointment or at least three weeks in advance. 

  • Meals on Wheels/Nutrition Program:  Meals on Wheels services are administered and distributed from two locations within the township: The Senior Nutrition Center at 201 Highwood Ave to sign up call 201-319-6060 and the Gregory Ave Community Room at 525 Gregory Ave to sign up call 201-330-7634. To sign up for Meals on Wheels to be delivered to homebound seniors please call 201-319-6060 for more information. 

  • Bingo: Bingo is held twice a week: Monday’s at the Gregory Ave Community Room located at 525 Gregory Ave at 1PM and Thursday’s at the Park Ave Community located at 4800 Park Ave at 1PM. 

  • Casino Trips: We offer trips to the casinos in Atlantic City and Wind Creek in Pennsylvania. 

  • Special Events: We have many different special events for the senior community throughout the year. Celebrations in luncheon parties for Super Bowl, St. Patrick’s & St. Joseph’s Day, Welcome Spring/ Happy Easter, Mother’s Day Breakfast in conjunction with the Weehawken Elks Lodge 1456, End of Summer BBQ in conjunction with the Weehawken Housing Authority, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.  

  • Free Exercise Classes: We offer Chair Yoga on Thursday’s at 2:30PM at the Senior Nutrition Center located at 201 Highwood Ave and on Friday’s at 9AM at the Gregory Ave Community Room located at 525 Gregory Ave. 

  • Weehawken Senior Citizen’s Club:  The Senior Citizen’s Club meet at 1PM on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month at the Senior Nutrition Center located at 201 Highwood Ave. They have coffee and cake, get a gift for your birthday, 50/50 chances, play bingo, and spend a great afternoon with friends. 

  • Knitting Club: We offer two locations for our Knitting Club on Tuesday's & Wednesday's at the Senior Nutrition Center located at 201 Highwood Ave from 10am-12pm. And our Knitting with Love Club meet regularly to work on projects for Veteran's and non-profit organizations that benefit from their creation at the Gregory Ave Apartments located at 525 Gregory Ave on Mondays from 12-1:30PM and Tuesday through Sunday from 6:30-8PM. All are welcome from beginners to experts. They exchange yarn and ideas and love making new friends.

  • Keep in Touch Program: We offer a daily week day phone service for homebound seniors. 

  • Annual Flu Shots: We provide free Flu Shots in all of our senior locations. Please contact the Senior office at 201-319-6060 for more information  

  • Hudson County Office on Aging: We are the liaison to the Federal Produce Voucher Program held by Hudson County during the Summer/Fall.
