Weehawken Crime is Way Down - We Need YOUR Help To Keep It That Way

Weehawken Crime is Way Down - We Need YOUR Help To Keep It That Way

Weehawken's crime rate is DOWN 55% since 1991!

Help us keep it that way.

The arrival of the Spring Season usually brings out a host of scam artists who - either in person or by phone - are trying to steal your money or your property. Con artists may pose as utility workers (gas, electric, phone, water), home repair contractors, or people who need help. You should be on the alert for these criminals and immediately report any suspicions to police at:

201-863-7800

Here are some tips to help you avoid being the victim of a scam...

Utility Workers

Common Scam: Someone appears at your door claiming to be from the Water Company. They want to check the quality of your water but have no ID.

What to Do: All utility workers have picture ID and must produce it when asked. If they do not have an ID or you are unsure if an ID is legitimate, do not allow them in your home and contact the police.

Home Repair Contractors

Common Scam:Persons may appear at your door to tell you that they are Home Repair Contractors who noticed damage to your roof while working on a neighbor's house. They want to come in to evaluate the damage and 'help' you.

What to Do: Do not allow them in your home and contact the police.

People Who Need Your Help

Common Scam:Persons may appear at your door asking to use your telephone to call for help with an emergency.

What to Do: Do not allow them in your home - call the police department for them.

IF YOU FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE CRIME PREVENTION TIPS, YOU WILL GREATLY REDUCE THE CHANCE OF YOUR BECOMING A CRIME VICTIM. EVEN THOUGH CRIME IS DOWN 62% TOWNWIDE, WE CAN FURTHER REDUCE CRIME BY WORKING TOGETHER.
